ON THE BIG SCREEN THIS WEEKEND (May 5th - 7th)

Movie houses are reopening which is great news for our indie film house friends. Always remember, for any cinemas reopening for indoor screenings, please check their Covid safety protocols. Masks are not just about protecting yourself, and you are in their house. Respect the rules!

Fri 5/7: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984) at Hollywood’s LEGION THEATER DRIVE IN. Each ticket includes unlimited popcorn, one soda and one candy for each passenger! More info HERE.

Fri 5/7: Arizona’s LOFT CINEMA reopens for in person screenings on top of ongoing streaming titles! More info HERE.

See what's new on the shelves at Oregon's fantastic MOVIE MADNESS VIDEO. They're always adding to their vast catalogue with classics you'll never see online as well as new releases that usually cost more to rent online too! Fri 5/7: The DRYDEN THEATRE / EASTERN MUSEUM in Rochester NY is open! Catch a 35mm screening of Hitchcock's masterpiece REAR WINDOW (1954) on the big screen. More info HERE.

Fri 5/7 and Sat 5/8: The always awesome MAHONING DRIVE IN in Pennsylvania kicks open the crypt and sharpens the stakes once more, with an all-Hammer edition of VAMPYRTY! That’s right, it’s time to dust off your capes and sharpen your fangs as England’s legendary House Of Horror clears out the belfry with four glamorously ghoulish classics sure to raise the undead! Friday, May 7th: HORROR OF DRACULA (1958) + BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960) and Saturday, May 8th: THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970) + VAMPIRE CIRCUS (1972). All on 35mm! More info HERE.

Fri 5/7: NYC’s ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE reopens today! Catch the award seasons best on the big screen where they belong, plus the restarting of repertory titles as they fire the projectors back up. Sessions already starting to sell out, and rightfully so. They will be maintaining safety protocols far more than places like AMC. More info HERE.

Fri 5/7: Celebrate AAPI month with modern classics of Asian cinema and Asian film makers at Santa Ana’s FRIDA CINEMA. Amongst the lineup is CHUNGKING EXPRESS (1995) from master film maker Wong Kar Wai. Also screens Sat and Sun. More info HERE.

Fri 5/7: NYC’s BAM CINEMATEK presents ‘Queerting the Canon’; a collection of vital modern queer classics from the 90s onwards set in NYC on the big screen. More info HERE.

Sat 5/8:
The original heavyweight champions of monster cinema in one massive Double Feature! Catch GODZILLA (1954) + KING KONG (1933) at QUEENS DRIVE IN / MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE in NYC. More info HERE.

Sat 5/8: Catch a screening of the Russian classic MIRROR (1974) newly restored at NYC’s FILM AT LINCOLN CENTER which just recently reopened. More info HERE.

Sat 5/8: Chicago's MUSIC BOX THEATRE presents HEAT (1995), one of the all time great heist movies with the first on screen pairing of Pacino and DeNiro. Also screens Sunday.More info HERE.

Sat 5/8: The Dallas cinema gem THE TEXAS THEATER continues to welcome back movie lovers with select sessions indoor of modern faves this weekend with SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD and LOTR: THE TWO TOWERS (New 4K Restoration). More info HERE.

Stay up to date with how you can support SCARECROW VIDEO, a Seattle institution that’s more than just an incredible video store. Places like this are vital to offset the decline in titles being made available via streaming, and having platforms dictate what you can watch. More info HERE.

Sun 5/9: A 2pm matinee Double Feature of Wizards and Witches at Melbourne's ASTOR THEATRE with THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939 - 35mm!) + THE WITCHES (1990). More info HERE.

Sun 5/9: Celebrate the late, and great, Olympia Dukakis who left us last week with STEEL MAGNOLIAS (1989), co-starring Shirley Maclaine, Dolly Parton and more at Brooklyn’s SYNDICATED SIDEWALK CINEMA. More info HERE.

Sun 5/9: Join the MAHONING DRIVE IN as they welcome back Discount Disney Nights for their 2021 Season! They're kicking things off with an incredibly rare 35mm Print of the Live Action/Animated Classic "WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?!" The Drive In has been pushing to access the Coveted Disney Vaults for over 4 years and as it stands, The Mahoning Drive-in is the only one in the country programming 35mm Disney! More info HERE.
