MIDWEEK ROUND-UP: RE-SCORED SILENT CLASSICS AND CULT FAVES ON 35MM

Cult films a-plenty across the week with new scores for classic silent era films, rare 35mm and much more amongst our picks of the greats on the big screen this week.

Mon 4/4th 9:15pm: In THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2 (1986) the chainsaw-wielding maniac Leatherface is up to his cannibalistic ways once again, along with the rest of his twisted clan, including the equally This time, a disc jockey teams up with a Texas lawman (Dennis Hopper) to battle the psychopath and his family deep within their lair, a macabre abandoned amusement park. Tues 4/4th 7:30pm: It's B-Movie Mayhem with the baffling ALIEN PRIVATE EYE (1987) where an extraterrestrial private eye is on the hunt for two halves of a powerful magical disc. Tues 4/4th 6pm:
One of the silent era's most influential masterpieces, NOSFERATU (1922). An eerie, gothic feel -- and a chilling performance from Max Schreck as the vampire -- set the template for the horror films that followed. Tues April 4th 9:30pm: An Unpopular nerd buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury, naming it Christine, and becoming obsessed with the vehicle. A local bully defaces it, but post restoration, it goes on a revenge killing spree thanks to having a mind of it's own. Wed 4/5th & Thurs 4/6th 7:30pm: A comedy classic Double Feature of rare 35mm Prints with THE IN-LAWS (1979) starring the great Peter Falk and Alan Arkin, followed by Chevy Chase in FLETCH (1985) at The New Beverly Cinema, Los Angeles. More info HERE.

Wed 4/5th 7pm: Widely considered to be the defining work of the German Expressionist genre, THE CABINET OF DOCTOR CALIGARI (1920) is a mesmerizing trek into psychological horror with a new score performed by Sleepbomb at The Roxie Theatre, San Francisco. More info HERE.

Wed 4/5th 9pm: In dystopian Detroit, private sector OCP takes over policing making the ultimate law enforcement machine from leftover bits of peace officer Peter Weller—but they didn’t bank on their invention making his way up the corporate ladder of crime. n 1937, a two-and-a-half year old boy in Tibet was recognized as the 14th reincarnation of the Buddha of Compassion, and destined to become the spiritual and political leader of his people. Wed 4/5th 9:15pm: One of the most stunning sci-fi films of the last 20 years is Danny Boyle's SUNSHINE (2007). Criminally underrated, Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh, Rose Byrne, and Hiroyuki Sanada try to save the world by rebooting our dying sun; as a heavenly body wreaks havoc on the psyches of the puny humans trying to contend with it. Wed 4/5th 7:30pm: One of the greatest films about film ever made, Federico Fellini’s 8½ (1963) marks the moment when the director’s always-personal approach to film-making fully embraced self-reflexivity and pioneering a stream-of-consciousness style. Thurs 4/6th 6:45pm: Based on a true story WALKING TALL (1973) sees ex-Marine Buford Pusser (Joe Don Baker) returning to Tennessee to try his hand at logging, but a trip to a seedy gambling establishment ends up with Pusser seriously injured and a vow to rid the town of corruption. Thurs 4/6th 7:05pm: Josh Brolin stumbles upon dead bodies, $2 million and a hoard of heroin in a Texas desert, but methodical killer (Javier Bardem) comes looking for it, with local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) hot on his trail in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (2007) screening for free at The Luna Theater, Massachusetts.
