Hey hey we’re back! After a brief hiatus Neon Marquee is here to pick through the weekend’s offerings of cult and classic cinema on the big screen. There’s lots more on offer so don’t forget to have a look around while visiting each cinemas home page!

FRIDAY JULY 26TH

Friday through Sunday (12pm & 7pm):
NEW 4K RESTORATION (consultation by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese) of the Burt Lancaster / Ava Gardner classic THE KILLERS (1946) at NYC’s Film Forum

Fri 12:45pm & 10:30pm:
New restoration from the 16mm film STREETWISE (1984) of the tough street life of Seattle, with photographs by Mary Ellen Mark. Screens at Metrograph NYC.

Fri 7:30pm: A fantastic Double Feature of Super Hero classics with (the original and best) SUPERMAN (1978) plus SUPERGIRL (1984) screening in 35mm at Hollywood's magnificent Egyptian Theatre.

Fri 9:30pm: Join Monty Python alumni Terry Gilliam's and his maniacal gang in the wild fantasy extravaganza TIME BANDITS (1981) at The Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Fri 10pm: Don't be afraid to get back in the water for JAWS (1975), the film that defined the summer blockbuster! Showing at The Loft Cinema in Tuscon, Arizona. Also screens 10pm Saturday,

Fri through Sunday: The fantastic Mahoning Drive-In in Lehighton Pennsylvania presents SCHLOCK-O-RAMA 3! From Friday 6pm through Sunday 12pm catch the iconic Drive-In's 'annual tribute to the cheap, trashy world of wild genre cinema that plays best on the giant outdoor screen!'. Lineup includes (ready for this?): Friday, July 26th: THE VAMPIRE’S COFFIN (1958), A BUCKET OF BLOOD (1959) Dir. by Roger Corman, BEACH GIRLS AND THE MONSTER (1965), BLOOD THIRST (1971). Friday through Sunday: Catch the HARRY POTTER films (Parts 3 through 6) at Syndicated in Brooklyn, NY with screening across various session times.

SATURDAY JULY 27TH

Sat 1pm: Still one of all the time great family adventure greats! HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS (1989) screens for it's 30th Anniversary, plus the Roger Rabbit short TUMMY TROUBLE which originally screened ahead of the film in '89, at London's Prince Charles Cinema!

Sat 2:15pm, 6pm & 9:45pm: The wonderfully seedy noir gem SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS (1955) stars Burt Lancaster as a revered gossip columnist and Tony Curtis as 'the kid that wanted in' at NYC's Film Forum. 2:15pm session in 35mm!

Sat (Various Times): Catch a helping of favorites at various Austin based Alamo Drafthouses including THE NEVER ENDING STORY (1984) 10am at Alamo Lakeline, and Eddie Murphy' underarted comedy and BOWFINGER (1999) 7:15pm at Alamo Ritz

Sat 1:30pm & 8:15pm:
An exquisite cinematic telling of a classic Japense ghost story in UGETSU (1953) at NYC's wonderful Metrograph. Screens in 35mm as part of the MACHIKO KYÔ Retrospective, who passed away this May.

Sat 2pm: Get set for a 6 film Horror and Sci-Fi classics marathon at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre. This absolutley fantastic lineup is as follows; HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1958), THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951), FREAKS (1932), THEM! (1954), THE HAUNTING (1963) and CAT PEOPLE (1942). Best of all; every film in 35mm! Tickets $25!

Sat 7:30pm: Visit NYC's gorgeous Roxy Cinema and catch THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967) in 35mm, starring Sharon Tate, one of the subjects of Tarantino's latest.

Sat 7pm: Party like it's 1984 (or 1999..) with the 35th Anniversary of PURPLE RAIN (1984) and a special Sing-Along session at Tuscon Arizona's Loft Cinema.

Sat 7:15pm: Catch a very suitable outdoor screening of TWILIGHT (2008) in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Photo booth, bar and grill all on site!

Sat 2:30pm:
Has it really been 20 years? Yup! Journey back into THE MATRIX (1999) screening in 35mm at London's Prince Charles Cinema. Also screening Friday and Sunday.

SUNDAY JULY 28TH

Sun 12pm matinee: More Burt Lancaster classics at NYC's Film Forum! See 'that kiss' on the beach in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953). Co-starring Deborah Kerr and Frank Sinatra. New 4K Restoration!

Sun 11am matinee: The beloved Western rides again! Catch SHANE (1953) in 35mm at NYC's Metrograph. Directed by George Stevens.

Sun 2pm matinee: The original animal screen hero! Catch a rare screening of LASSIE COME HOME (1943) for free at Arizona's Loft Cinema and presented by The Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Sun 1pm: The Prince Charles Cinema in London kicks off their 'Once Upon A Time With Tarantino' retrospective with RESERVOIR DOGS (1992) this weekend. Also screens Friday and Saturday ahead of Tarantino's entire feature Directorial catalogue.

Sun 7pm: A very rare, fragile 70mm Print of CHEYENNE AUTUMN (1964) screens at the French Cinematheque in Paris. The John Ford classic stars Richard Widmark, Carroll Baker, Karl Malden and James Stewart.

MIDNIGHT MOVIES!

Fri: Go back to the start of the modern zombie movie revitalization with Danny Boyle's gritty 28 DAYS LATER (2002) in 35mm at The Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline Massachusetts
Sat: The awesome and rather intense remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004) screens in 35mm at The Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline Massachusetts.

Fri / Sat: NYC's original midnight movie venue continues with the long running 'Waverly Midnights' and 'Weekend Classics' at IFC Center NYC. This week's lineup is BRAZIL (1985), ED WOOD (1994), LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008), MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001 - New 4K DCP) and PULP FICTION (1994). Pls note sessions start between 11:45pm and Midnight.

Fri / Sat: Keanu gets into a deal with the devil (Al Pacino) in the wonderfully crazy THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (1997) in 35mm at Brooklyn, NY’s Nitehawk Cinema.
