MAY AT THE PRINCE CHARLES

The Prince Charles Cinema in London is back for May with an awesome program of screenings. Here's our highlights for the month;

THE RAID (2011) + THE RAID 2 (2014)

As a rookie member of an elite special-forces team, Rama is instructed to hang back during a covert mission involving the extraction of a brutal crime lord from a rundown fifteen-story apartment block. But when a spotter blows their cover, boss Tama offers lifelong sanctuary to every killer, rapist and thief in the building in exchange for their heads. Now Rama must stand in for the team's fallen leader and use every iota of his fighting strength - winding through every floor and every room to complete the mission and escape with his life.

Picking up from right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

A comic-book nerd and Elvis fanatic Clarence (Christian Slater) and a prostitute named Alabama (Patricia Arquette) fall in love. Clarence breaks the news to her pimp and ends up killing him. He grabs a suitcase of cocaine on his way out thinking it is Alabama's clothing. The two hit the road for California hoping to sell the cocaine, but the mob is soon after them. Directed by Tony Scott, Screenplay by Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary.

The producers of Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music and Sing-a-Long-a GREASE bring you their latest interactive film. The brand new sing-along screening of the classic film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

It’s the Summer of 1963, it’s college boys versus dancing hunks, it’s one of the best loved movies of all time and, yes, there is a guy as great as your dad. Join Baby and Johnny in a fun-filled screening of the1987 dance classic film where YOU are the stars of the show. Their host will lead a vocal warm up, show you how to use your free interactive prop bag and have you dancing really dirty….. Fancy dress not obligatory but highly recommended.

Tom Hanks' directorial debut. A Pennsylvania band scores a hit in 1964 and rides the star-making machinery as long as it can, with lots of help from its manager. So wonderfully made with such authenticity that you'd swear it was based on an actual group.

Disappointed with her small part in the chorus line of a Los Angeles show, jazz dancer Kelly (Lucinda Dickey) quits and heads home. Her father (John Christy Ewing) disapproves of Kelly's friendship with street dancers Ozone (Adolfo "Shabba-Doo" Quinones) and Turbo (Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers), and encourages her to pursue an opportunity to perform in Paris. Ignoring his wishes, Kelly teams up with her friends for a break-dancing benefit show to save an endangered community center.

Sing-A-Long version

Following the celebration of the movie’s 50th anniversary in 2015, the PCC move into it’s second half century with a return of the smash-hit musical to the UK. Yes, the original Sing-a-long-a is back! Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music is a screening of the Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, with subtitles so that everyone can sing along, a host and free interactive props bag. The audience is the star of this interactive show and anything can happen – at Sing-a-long-a THERE ARE NO RULES! So, even if you’ve been before, come back and re-experience this unique interactive show and don’t forget to dress up as one of your favourite things!

BRAINSTORM (1983 / 70mm Print)

Researchers Michael Brace (Christopher Walken) and Lillian Reynolds (Louise Fletcher) develop a system that allows the recording and playback of a person's thoughts onto videotape. The project spins dangerously out of control when Brace and his colleagues begin using the technology to explore intense sexual and near-death experiences. When the military moves to hijack the project for their own nefarious purposes, Brace tries to outwit them with help from his estranged wife (Natalie Wood).
