GEORGE 'OO7' LAZENBY IN PERSON AT CINEFAMILY

LA's Cinefamily will present James Bond himself, George Lazenby, in person on May 17th for a fascinating evening of 007. Not only will you see the new Hulu documentary ahead of it's debut, but also a screening of Lazenby's single outing as the dashing spy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

George Lazenby’s crafty road to the role of James Bond – from used car salesman to model to movie superspy – is a fascinating tale of swinging 60′s excess, brought to vivid life in Josh Greenbaum’s documentary/dramatization, Becoming Bond. Using an interview with the still dashing and effortlessly charming Lazenby intercut with cleverly staged reenactments, Greenbaum lovingly follows the one-off Bond’s self-effacing, honest and often debauched account of how he bluffed his way into cinema’s most coveted male fantasy. It’s alternately astounding, hilarious and even deeply moving, and the reenactments are boosted by the help of some fun celebrity cameos, including Dana Carvey, Jane Seymour (herself a former Bond girl), Jeff Garlin, and Jake Johnson. Despite choosing to play the role only once, Lazenby made an indelible mark on the Bond franchise in his sole turn in the tux, 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – now largely considered one of the best of the ever-enduring blockbuster spy series. As director Peter Hunt’s ultimate choice to succeed Bond originator Sean Connery, Lazenby was a risky proposition as he had not, until that point, acted in a film. The risk paid off handsomely – the Aussie hunk brings a rugged physicality to the role, giving his all to visceral action scenes and handily holding his own against heavyweight co-stars Diana Rigg (as Bond’s only onscreen wife Tracy) and Telly Savalas (taking over the nemesis role of Blofeld). Come shake – not stir – a martini and celebrate with the Bond who only lived once, George Lazenby himself! Becoming Bond is a Hulu Original Documentary and will available on Hulu on May 20th.

Attendance is free but RSVP is essential.
